How To Make 3D Sketch Using Image Texture On SketchUp Make

In this tutorial, I wilI explain to you how to make 3D sketch on SketchUp make version using images texture automatically. you can use this method to shorten your time in making details on your 3D model as well as carving doors, carving on walls and so on.

To make sketch drawing on SketchUp make, it takes some additional software that you must install first into your PC.  That software is blender and Img2CAD as image conversion software into a format supported by SketchUp Make itself.

If you are  SketchUp Pro user, you dont need to use blender over all. this is because in SketchUp Pro there is a feature that can import file Dxf directly. so image from Img2CAD can be import in SketchUp directly.

How to do thats?? here are the steps you can follow in creating a sketch model using image texture in SketchUp.

1. Joint Push pull

2. DBUR Projection Tool.

3. Make face

Step 1

You have to install Blender and Img2CAD in your PC.

Step 2

Open Img2CAD and insert the sketch image you will create then convert it into .DXF format.

Step 3

Open the blender and import the converted .DXF files by selecting File> Import> AutoCAD DXF. First, remove the default model on the blender by pressing A and press x to delete

Step 4

If already imported into Blender then select the model by right click (default) / left click (if it is in previous setting) then press ALT + C and select Mesh from Curve / Meta / Surf / Text

Step 5

Export the image into the Collada .dae format by selecting File> Export> Collada (default) .dae. Then name it and select the folder to export.

Step 6

Going into SketchUp then import the Collada file already exported by select File> Import

Step 7

If already imported into SketchUp then go to the sketch group then create a larger square shape than image sketch located at above the model.

Step 8

Use  DBUR projection tool  to project a sketch to a square shape that has been created.

Step 9

Next delete the square and the initial sketch image so that it will leave a new sketch. Then select all the sketch drawings and select Tool> Make Face to shape the face on the sketch

Step 10

Remove unwanted sketch surface then select all face and use joint push pull  to extrude the sketch and see the results
